Wexner Center for the Arts
I recently have obtained a weird fascination/obsession with Andy Warhol, and cannot wait to see this movie.
A Walk into the Sea: Danny Williams and the Warhol Factory
(Esther B. Robinson, 2007)Thu, Oct 11, 2007 | 7:00PM
In 1965, promising young filmmaker Danny Williams fell in love with Andy Warhol, and moved in with the artist and his mother. Quickly a fixture on the Warhol Factory scene, Williams made over 20 films and designed the groundbreaking Velvet Underground/Exploding Plastic Inevitable light show.
When Warhol ended their affair in 1966, Williams returned to his family home in Massachusetts, and from there he simply disappeared. Filmmaker Esther Robinson is Danny Wilson's niece, and although she never met him, she became fascinated by his story. A Walk into the Sea is her extraordinary investigation into his life, his death, and the unsurpassed contribution he made to Warhol's legacy as an avant-garde filmmaker. As much a moving commentary on a family's history and secrets as it is a stunning restoration of Danny Williams's vision as a filmmaker, A Walk into the Sea also incorporates surprising interviews with surviving Factory habitués, offering a glimpse of the human fragility on which the Warhol empire was built. (75 mins.)

Columbus Cool!
I was beyond excited when I saw this article in the New York Times Magazine today ... It's about time people started learning about how cool Columbus really is!
The transformation has mostly taken place in the Short North district, a gallery-filled strip of North High Street that’s home to the Wexner Center for the Arts (1871 N. High Street; 614-292-3535) and boutiques like Jinny (1) (844 N. High Street; 614-291-3600), where the former Los Angeles fashion editor Jin Fillinger stocks clothes from Sue Stemp, Harlow, Clu, Willow and Phillip Lim — labels hard to find in the Midwest outside Chicago.
Four blocks away, the New York City expat Maren Roth recently opened Rowe (4) (718 N. High Street; 614-299-7693), a cool whitewashed space where she introduces shoppers to clothes by Generra, Lauren Moffatt, Bulga and Nieves Lavi. Customers often slip next door to the beauty boutique Luxe de Vie (720 N. High Street; 614-421-0589) for Bond no. 9 perfume, and around the corner to the street-wear shop TigerTree (2) (17 E. Brickel Street; 614-223-2136).
A restaurant scene has also taken hold in the Short North. The new wine bar Marcella’s (5) (615 N. High Street; 614-223-2100) is packed nightly; Northstar (6) (951 N. High Street; 614-298-9999) draws crowds for its organic menu; and Rosendales (3) (793 N. High Street; 614-298-1601) serves coffee-and-pepper-crusted steak with grated chocolate and parsnip silk. All this is a short drive from Tee Jaye’s Country Place (4910 N. High Street; 614-885-1383), a Midwest stalwart where you can order anything on the menu covered in gravy.

Wexner Center Update
William Wegman: Funney/Strange
Wexner Center Galleries
Thu, Sep 20 - Sun, Dec 30, 2007
This nationally touring exhibition, a comprehensive 40-year retrospective of Wegman's wryly funny work, showcases his photography, painting, collage, and video from the 1960s to the present, including his photographic collaborations with his well known Weimaraners. Together, these pieces offer "a total immersion in the fruits of his inquiring mind and sardonic eye," says the New York Times. "Dogs or no dogs, Mr. Wegman is one of the most important artists to emerge from the heady experiments of the 1970s."
Funney/Strange fills all the Wexner Center galleries and features a special project by the artist in the lobby. This is the only place in the Midwest where you can see the show—and it's your last chance. Funney/Strange has already delighted viewers at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C., the Norton Museum of Art in Palm Beach, Florida, and the Addison Gallery of American Art in Andover, Massachusetts, and is concluding its national tour here in Columbus.
Orange Barrel Media is a sponsor of this exhibit so Pete and I will be attending the opening. I can't wait to meet him!

Madeleine Peyroux is coming to Columbus!
My cousin gave me her CD two years ago and I've been obsessed ever since. I can't want to see her live!
Where? The Southern Theatre
When? Wednesday November 7th @ 7:30 pm
Jazz singer, guitarist, and songwriter Madeleine Peyroux melds jazz standards with more contemporary influences like Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell, winning audiences over with her three albums -- the most recent, 2006's Half the Perfect World debuted at #33 on the Billboard Top 200 -- and lush live performances.
